Chamber proposes new digital sign

• Craig Jondahl from the Groton Area Chamber of Commerce came before the council to discuss the new proposed 4'x10' Groton digital sign for along US Highway 12. The cost is a little over $35,000 for the sign plus wiring and communications. He asked if the city could be a partner to the tune of $10,000. There are a few locations being considered. It was discovered that the old sign was in the state Right-of-Way and had to be removed. The school and Clark Engineering have expressed interest in being a partner in the project. "I think it would be a benefit for the community," Jondahl said. The council will give it serious consideration.
• There was discussion on the county road south of the golf course. Councilman Eddy Opp said, "It's a shame that the county can't fix a mile of road when you drive into Aberdeen and see miles of roads they take care of."
• Mayor Roy Olson talked about Police Officer David Hunter. He is attending school in Pierre for 12 weeks. "So far it's going well," Olson said.
• Roy Olson presented his plat for his future expansion to the north in the Olson Development. There will be nine additional lots. The plat was approved.
• The city will shut down operations on Christmas Eve. City Hall and the City Shop will be closed.
• The Christmas Lighting Contest will be held December 17. The Groton Chamber will be getting out-of-town judges this year.
• Councilman Clare Brotherton, who has joined the council meeting the past two meetings via telephone from California, was unable to attend the meeting because she is in the hospital since last Thursday with pneumonia.
• The following persons were hired as warming house attendants:  Justin Olson, Char Telkamp, Katelyn Hawkins, Kylie Hawkins, and Logan Lane.
