our Kindergartners.  We learned about "stranger danger" and being safe in our homes.  We were excited to go outside to see the police cars and even sit inside one!  We learned that police officers are our friends and that we should not be afraid of them.  Thank you, Officer Bjerke!
• Social Studies has kept us very busy this month.  We learned about Election Day and even voted in Kindergarten!  We voted for our favorite ice cream and our favorite colors.  We also voted for President of the United States.  We learned about Veterans Day and the people that fight for our country to protect America.  We sang the song, "God Bless the USA" at our Veterans Day program-we hope you enjoyed it!  It always brings tears to the eyes of the Kindergarten teachers!  This month we also learned about the Pilgrims and the Native Americans.  We learned they traveled from England across the ocean and landed in America.  We found all of these places on our globes.
• Math finds us busy learning the numbers 0-10.  We have counted objects, written numbers and put numbers in the correct order.  During the month of October, we did Pumpkin Math.  WE counted grooves, estimated the circumference, measured height and weighed each pumpkin.  This was great practice for writing larger numbers.
• Nocturnal animals were a fun Science lesson.  We learned that raccoons and bats are both nocturnal animals.  We have made art projects, learned facts and read stories about these "creatures of the night".  Another fun "creepy, crawly" we learned about in Science was spiders.  We learned they are not an insect, but are called arachnids and they have two body parts, eight legs and eight eyes.  Boy, are we ever getting smart!
• Kindergarten was the Box Top Winner!  We collected 2,108 Box Tops for our school.  Each Box Top is worth 10 cents and is used to purchase equipment for our school.  There will also be a Spring collection-so keep saving!  Kindergarten was able to pick the music for our morning bulletin for an entire week!

• 2nd Grade - Jane Kroll and Anne Zoellner
The second graders have had a whirlwind of a 2nd quarter!  Between preparing for the Veteran's Day program, Christmas program, and the Thanksgiving meal they have been busy.
• The Thanksgiving meal is a first and second grade tradition.  We will wear Native American vests and travel over to the first grade room to join the pilgrims, the first graders, for a feast.  We provide the popcorn and first grade will provide the fixings.  This is an experience that the kids will never forget.
