• Meanwhile, we urge all school districts to consider a conservative approach -- or to at least not succumb to more liberal ideas -- when considering future uniform options.

South Dakota man sentenced in April beating death

• WINNER, S.D. (AP) -- A man accused of beating another man to death at a tribal housing facility in the South Dakota city of Winner has been sentenced to six years in prison for voluntary manslaughter.
• Nineteen-year-old Taylor White Buffalo initially had been charged with murder in the April 13 death of Ernest White Buffalo Chief.
• U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says White Buffalo will be on supervised release for three years following his prison term.

SD man sentenced for illegally shooting wildlife

• FORT THOMPSON, S.D. (AP) -- A Fort Thompson man accused of illegally shooting wildlife has been sentenced to serve a year and a day in prison.
• Twenty-five-year-old Richard Coleman also was ordered to pay $11,750 in restitution.
• U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Coleman illegally shot a bald eagle, a snowy owl and deer late last year and early this year. Coleman also faced a weapons charge. He pleaded guilty in August.
