First Lady to mark milestone in reading initiative

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota First Lady Linda Daugaard is visiting her 200th elementary school this week as part of her initiative to encourage students to read.
• Daugaard will read to students in the third, fourth and fifth grades at Lincoln Elementary School in Aberdeen on Friday.
• The First Lady started her reading initiative on May 8, 2011, to stress the importance of reading as a lifelong learning tool. She says good reading skills are the foundation of all learning.
• Daugaard has since read to more than 19,000 elementary students across South Dakota. In addition to reading to students, Daugaard also uses the visits to collect gently used chapter books to distribute in classrooms at other schools. Books from the last school visited go to the next school on her list.

South Dakota cruises to 84-59 victory over Waldorf

• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- Karim Rowson scored 15 points to lead five South Dakota players in double figures in an 84-59 victory against Waldorf College on Saturday night.
• Tyler Flack added 14 points, Brandon Bos and Juevol Myles 12 each and Jordan Boots 11 for the Coyotes (3-3). Flack had seven rebounds and eight blocked shots.
• Robert Burns had 12 points and Jordan Nelson 11 for Waldorf, an NAIA school in Forest City, Iowa, that classified the game as an exhibition. The Warriors' record remained 1-5.

South Dakota State routs Eastern Illinois 58-10

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- Zach Zenner ran for 295 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead South Dakota State to a 58-10 win over Eastern Illinois in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
• The Jackrabbits (9-3), who had six rushing TDs, next face Missouri Valley Football Conference rival North Dakota State (10-1) on Dec. 1 in Fargo, N.D.
