2 La Tech president finalists, from Tech, S Dakota

• RUSTON, La. (AP) -- A Louisiana Tech vice president and the acting president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology are finalists for president of Tech.
• Les Guice is executive vice president and vice president for research and development at the school in Ruston. Duane C. Hrncir has been acting president of the school in Rapid City, S.D., since president Robert Wharton died in September.
• Both will be interviewed in public at Tech on Wednesday, Nov. 28 -- Guice at 10:15 and Hrncir at 1:30 p.m.
• People who attend those sessions can submit questions they would like asked and fill out comment cards afterward. Those who can't get to Tech can email comments.
• They'll spend the rest of the day meeting with community leaders, student leaders, vice presidents, academic deans, faculty and staff and touring the campus.
• The presidential search committee will meet Nov. 29 at 10 a.m.
• Dan Reneau plans to retire as Tech's president on June 30.
• Tech has 11,581 students. The School of Mines has 1,834 full-time and 477 part-time students.

Rapid City casino robber gets 8 years in prison

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A Rapid City man who used a pellet gun to rob a casino last summer has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
• Twenty-five-year-old Billy Robertson pleaded guilty last month to robbing the King of Hearts Casino in July. Prosecutors dismissed other charges in return for the guilty plea to first-degree robbery.
• The combination of the charges and Robertson's criminal history could have landed him in prison for life. He was sentenced Monday.
