SD diabetes rate more than doubles since 1995

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D (AP) -- A new study has found that South Dakota's diabetes rate has more than doubled since 1995.
• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study found that the rate in South Dakota jumped 121.4 percent by 2010. Some 6.6 percent of South Dakotans say they have diabetes, just slightly below the national average of 7 percent.
• Diabetes is a disease in which the body has trouble processing sugar.
• It's the nation's seventh leading cause of death, and complications include poor circulation, heart and kidney problems and nerve damage.
• The disease exploded in the United States in the last 50 years, with the vast majority from obesity-related Type 2 diabetes. In 1958, fewer than 1 in 100 Americans had been diagnosed with diabetes. In 2010, it was about 1 in 14.

Hot Lotto ticket sold in SD worth $30,000

• WHITEWOOD, S.D. (AP) -- A Hot Lotto ticket sold in Whitewood is worth $30,000 in Wednesday's drawing.
• South Dakota lottery officials say the ticket matched all five white ball numbers but missed the Hot Ball to win the game's $10,000 second prize. The amount was tripled because the ticket buyer purchased a multiplier option.
• Hot Lotto is played in 14 states and the District of Columbia. The odds of winning the second prize are one in about 608,000. The jackpot for the Saturday drawing sits at just under $5.4 million.

7 men arrested in SD reverse prostitution sting

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Sioux Falls police have arrested seven men in what they call a reverse prostitution sting.
• Authorities say the men allegedly responded to fake Internet ads and offered money for sex.
• Five of the suspects are from Sioux Falls. A Brookings man and a man from Beardsley, Minn., also were arrested. The suspects range in age from 23 to 64.
