• The latest county to be declared eligible is the North Dakota county of Sargent. The neighboring North Dakota counties of Dickey, Ransom and Richland, and the neighboring South Dakota counties of Brown, Marshall and Roberts become automatically eligible.

Panel will help search for new SD Mines president

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The state Board of Regents has appointed a dozen people to a committee that will help search for the next president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City.
• Those on the committee will include students, faculty and business executives.
• Regent Terry Baloun (Ba-LOON) will chair the search committee. Other regents on the panel include Dean Krogman (KROHG-man), Randy Morris and Kathryn Johnson.
• Baloun says input from campus and community leaders is valuable in the effort to find a new president for the school.
• The new president will succeed Robert Wharton, who died in September from complications from earlier cancer treatments.

USD encourages T-shirt swap ahead of football game

• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- The University of South Dakota's College of Arts and Sciences is sponsoring a T-shirt swap ahead of next weekend's football matchup between the Coyotes and the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits.
• The college is encouraging students, faculty and staff to donate any item of SDSU apparel in any condition in exchange for a new red USD T-shirt.
• All of the old SDSU clothing will be recycled and returned to the SDSU campus before the game by the Department of Military Science.
• Dean Matthew Moen says it's an effort to promote USD's new sustainability major in a light-hearted way while finding a good home for SDSU apparel.
• USD travels to Brookings to face SDSU on Nov. 17 for the team's first football matchup in nine years.

Pierre high school to hold Veterans Day event
