1926: An F4 tornado struck a school in La Plata, MD killing 14 students and faculty. It was the deadliest tornado in Maryland history.

1970: One of the worst cyclones in recent history hit the coast of Bangladesh. Storm surges of 13 to 16 feet combined with high tides and more than 10 inches of rain caused incredible flooding and killed more than 300,000 people.

2002: The Veterans Day Weekend Tornado Outbreak got underway. The outbreak began on the 9th with six tornadoes that struck western Tennessee, but by the time the weekend was over, 76 tornadoes were reported across 17 states, killing 36 people.
