more than a century. After the last gridiron meeting between the Jackrabbits and the Coyotes in 2003, SDSU was reclassified as an NCAA Division I institution. USD has since gained the same classification.
• "We've been off for a while, but we get the opportunity to respect the tradition and the history and the great moments that we've had in the past," said Justin Sell, SDSU's athletic director. "We also get a chance to maybe do some new things to help build it and grow it."
• The competition will amp up the natural rivalry the two schools, drawing on the energy, enthusiasm and passion of the schools' fan bases, said USD athletic director David Sayler.
• "In a state like this, in South Dakota with these two institutions, it's going to bring a lot of great folks together," he said.


States Atty: Homeowner killed man in self-defense

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- An investigation has found that a Rapid City man was justified when he shot to death another man in September.
• Pennington County States Attorney Glen Brenner says 69-year-old Thomas Wilson acted in self-defense when he shot and killed 21-year-old Dallas Two Bulls at his home in September.
• Police say Two Bulls entered the home of Wilson and beat him with a baseball bat before Wilson shot Two Bulls several times. A preliminary autopsy found that Two Bulls died from gunshot wounds.
• No charges have been filed against Wilson.
• Investigators say Wilson had been drinking with Two Bulls' twin sister prior to the incident, and both Two Bulls and Wilson were intoxicated.

Canadian firm optimistic about oil pipeline

• OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- The Canadian company that wants to build another oil pipeline to carry crude oil to Gulf Coast refineries remains optimistic about the project after President Barack Obama won re-election.
• TransCanada spokesman Shawn Howard says the company believes Obama will eventually approve the Keystone XL project once it reaches his desk next year because it will deliver oil from a friendly country.
• But Howard says TransCanada is focused on finalizing the pipeline's new route through Nebraska. State regulators will hold a public hearing on it Dec. 4.
