Voter turnout strong in South Dakota

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says polling places across the state are reporting big noon hours and strong afternoon traffic.
• Gant earlier predicted that about 70 percent of the state's voters would cast ballots, down slightly from the 73 percent turnout in the 2008 presidential election.
• He says that if the lines that started Tuesday morning come back after residents leave work, South Dakota should hit that number if not exceed it.
• Polls are open Tuesday until 7 p.m. local time.

SD airmen returning from Southwest Asia

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Twenty-seven members of the South Dakota Air National Guard who served half a year of duty in Southwest Asia are returning home.
• The Guard says the members of the 114th Security Forces Squadron are returning to Sioux Falls on commercial flights late Wednesday.
• The airmen deployed in April to provide security and law enforcement services at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia.

SD bar owner convicted of rape gets 100 years

• HURON, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota bar owner convicted of raping three girls after serving them alcohol has been sentenced to serve 100 years in prison.
• Thirty-five-year-old Werner Fajardo (fa-HAHR'-doh), of Sioux Falls, owned the El Cuervo bar in Huron. He was found guilty in August of assaulting a 12-year-old girl and two 14-year-olds at the bar late last year. State regulators revoked Fajardo's liquor license in January and the bar closed.
• Third Circuit Judge Jon Erickson sentenced Fajardo on Tuesday, calling the case one of the worst rape cases he had seen in 35 years behind the bench.
• Defense attorney Carmen Means says Fajardo continues to maintain his innocence.
