• GOP HOLDS FULL CONTROL OF PUC
• Republicans Chris Nelson and Kristie Fiegen won new terms on the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission, meaning Republicans will continue to hold all three seats on the panel that regulates grain warehouses and natural gas, electric and telephone utilities. Both Nelson and Fiegen were appointed to their positions to fill vacancies. The third commissioner, Gary Hanson, was not up for election this year.

• KLOUCEK DEFEATED
• A 22-year veteran of the Legislature has lost his bid to return to Pierre. Rep. Frank Kloucek, D-Scotland, lost his race for a Senate seat in a southeastern South Dakota district to Bill Van Gerpen, a Tyndall Republican. Van Gerpen will return to the Legislature after serving eight years in three different periods.
