5th Grade - Chris Kucker &  Janel Lone
• Fifth grade has 44 students this year.  We welcomed 4 new comers to our class.  Also this first semester we have a NSU student in our classroom.  Miss Brittany Huback will be student teaching under Mrs. Lone.  Miss Huback is originally from Minnesota  and is pursuing a career in Elementary Education. 
• Fifth grade continues to be departmentalized in hopes of better preparing our students for junior high.  Departmentalizing means that teachers are assigned to certain subjects rather than just certain students.  Mr. Kucker teaches Reading, Spelling, and Social Studies and Mrs. Lone teaches Math, English, and Science to all 5th graders. 
•  5th graders will take the writing assessment online 2 times this year.  In the past, the number of times we have had to take it has changed.   The test is done online.  This process appears to be more of a learning process rather than simply evaluation.  We believe the changes are for the best and we are looking forward to them.
• Social Studies and Science are sometime considered the more difficult subjects in 5th grade because of the content and vocabulary. Study skills, such as studying for test and taking notes, are as important as the content to the success of 5th graders in these areas. In Science class, students have been studying the earth and will be moving on to space.  There have been many hands on projects to help make this
