teaching some classes.
•  We read
The Boxcar Children every October, and it continues to be a favorite of many students.  There is something that appeals to our sense of adventure when we read about these four children making it on their own and being so industrious.  We will draw boxcars later in the month.  We've also read several good books during our shared reading time - The Year of Miss Agnes,  Clementine, and Humphrey the Hamster books.  This gives students opportunities to take AR tests over books they've listened to during shared reading. We go to great lengths to expose students to all genres of literature.
•  Our students are thoroughly enjoying their new dictionaries provided by the Ladies Auxiliary Unit 39.  We've "caught" several reading theirs during free time.  We use them often, and it is so convenient for the students to have their own copies at their fingertips.  We often hear, "I'll quick look it up in the dictionary!"  The students will take their dictionaries home at the end of the school year and continue to use them in upper grades.
•  Social studies finds us comparing and contrasting urban, suburban, and rural communities. Students made urban postcards and rural collages to help cement these concepts.  The study of living things is our focus in science.  Students have been studying plants, their life cycle, and how seeds are dispersed.
•  As always, we are productive and busy.  We wish all of you a happy fall season!
