Groton netters win first round

• Groton's volleyball team needed five games to beat Britton-Hecla in the first round of the District 1A volleyball tournament held in Britton last night.
• Game scores were 13-25, 25-18, 25-20, 23-25 and 15-11.
• In serving, Groton was 89 of 99 with 10 ace serves. Kylie Hawkins was 18 of 20 with five ace serves, Courtney Kurtz was 14 of 15 with two ace serves, Rylee Winburn was seven of nine with two ace serves and Camille Sippel was 17 of 17 with one ace serve.
• Groton was 102 of 125 in attacks with 55 kills. Erica Schuster was 24 of 26 with 16 kills, Kylie Hawkins was 33 of 38 with 16 kills and Camille Sippel was 27 of 31 with 14 kills.
• Groton was 122 of 123 in sets with 42 assists. Kurtz was 106 of 107 with 41 assists.
• Savanna Larson had 16 and Kurtz had 12 of the team's digs. Schuster had two blocks.
• Groton, now 9-14, will play at Roncalli on Thursday for the district championship game.
