Rumors of pickup

• It seems the Groton rumor mill has been running overtime lately. There have been postings on the Social Media, Facebook, and phone calls have been made about a recent report of a green pickup being spotted at the Groton Elementary School Wednesday afternoon and again in Langford the following morning.
• The rumor stems from a recent event in Roberts County where a green pickup is suspected of being involved in an attempt to abduct a child. The driver of the pickup was able to escape and the Roberts County Sheriff's Office is looking for it.
• While a report was filed with the Groton Police Department, Chief of Police Stacy Mayou says the report didn't lead to anything new.
• "A lady called in saying she saw a green pickup outside the Groton Elementary School on Wednesday," Mayou said. "We investigated the sighting but were unable to find anything. There are several green pickups in town."
• The Groton School District also took the sighting seriously.
• "After talking to the Roberts County and Groton law enforcement," Groton Elementary Principal Dan Dalchow said. "We didn't feel that there was any threat to the students."
• Groton Superintendent Laura Schuster also agreed that there was no reason to be alarmed.
• "If we had felt there was any cause for concern," Schuster said. "We would have contacted parents and enacted protocols to prevent any harm to Groton Students."
