Two fire calls on Saturday

• Groton Firemen responded to a small grass fire Saturday afternoon north of Groton. The fire was started by a four wheeler heading out to a stuck tractor.
• According to Groton Fire Chief Dion Bahr, the fire burned less than an acre of slough bottom Northeast of Mick Osterman's before Bob and Jason Osterman were able to put the fire out using scoop shovels and a coat.
• There were no injuries reported.
• Groton Firemen responded to a second fire call Saturday evening just after 10 pm at the Golden Living Center in Groton. At first it was thought that the fire was a false alarm, but it turned out that a resident's TV had caught fire while the resident was watching it.
• "The alarm company actually called dispatch and told them it was a false alarm," Groton Fire Chief Dion Bahr said. "I called the nursing home to find out it wasn't (a false alarm)."
• Nursing staff was in the room at the time the fire started and pulled the alarm. The fire was out by the time firemen arrived. The fire was contained to the TV set, which the firemen removed from the building.
• "We used our thermal imaging camera on the outlets, walls and ceiling to look for hot spots," Bahr said. "We didn't find any, so we reset the alarms."
• No one was injured in the fire. The Groton Police Department responded along with the Groton Fire Department.
