SD Sept. jobless rate down slightly at 4.4 percent

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota's unemployment rate was 4.4 percent in September, down slightly from 4.5 percent a month earlier.
• The state Labor Department reports that South Dakota's seasonally adjusted jobless rate has remained relatively stable since February, when it was at 4.3 percent.
• About 19,700 South Dakotans were unemployed in September, down 400 from a year earlier.
• The department reports that 422,900 South Dakotans had jobs last month, down 3,000 from the same month a year earlier.

• Civil War discussion slated for Saturday in Pierre
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The Cultural Heritage Center is holding the second of a three-part discussion series about the Civil War on Saturday.
• The series is titled "Making Sense of the American Civil War. Saturday's discussion will focus on the Civil War's 150th anniversary.
• The discussion is free and open to the public. It begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Cultural Heritage Center.
• The third discussion in the series will be held on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Cultural Heritage Center.
