SD libraries expanding selection of talking books

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Visually impaired South Dakotans should soon have access to an expanded selection of local and regional titles in talking-book format.
• The South Dakota State Library and the Siouxland Libraries in Sioux Falls recently opened a recording studio in Sioux Falls. Volunteers will produce books in digital format that will be available to South Dakotans who are unable to read standard print.
• Assitant State Librarian Colleen Kirby says the state's Braille and Talking Book Program now has more than 1,500 books that need to be recorded. She says the program depends on volunteers to narrate and prepare books for visually impaired people.

Ceremony planned for relocated Army guard unit

• MILLER, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Army National Guard is holding a ceremony to honor a unit that is being relocated.
• The Sunday ceremony is honoring soldiers from Miller's Detachment 2, Company A, 139th Brigade Support Battalion. The unit will conduct their drill training in Redfield for several months before moving to Watertown once a Readiness Center is completed.
• The ceremony is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the National Guard armory in Miller. Maj. Gen. Tim Reisch (rysh) is the featured speaker
• The unit's relocation is the result of federal budget cuts, U.S. Army restructuring and the opening of the new Regional Readiness Center.
