Lake Region Marching Band Festival to be in Waubay on Oct. 12th.

•  The Waubay High School Marching Band will be hosting the 11th annual Lake Region Marching Band Festival on Friday, Oct. 12th at 10:00am. The parade of bands will march on Main Street of Waubay from the south end, north to the football field. There are 16 area high school and middle school bands scheduled to appear. The special attraction this year will be a performance by the 200 member South Dakota State University's "Pride of the Dakotas" Marching Band. The entire SDSU Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band under the direction of Jim Coull will perform their full field show following the parade at the Waubay football field. The Pride is sponsored by the 1st Savings Bank of Waubay and Britton.
•  Bands from Middle Schools in Watertown and Milbank, High School Bands from Waubay, Webster, Britton-Hecla, Groton, Deuel (Clear Lake) Aberdeen Roncalli, Warner, Willow Lake, Langford, Leola, Castlewood, Ipswich, Wilmot and Great Plains Lutheran along with the SDSU band are scheduled to appear in the festival.
•  This festival is a parade of bands only. The parade will be on Waubay's main street beginning at 10:00AM. The bands will be spaced about 3 minutes apart so the groups can be judged. Bands may do a short street routine in front of the judges if they wish. Each band will receive a trophy for taking part, and up to four bands will be selected as the top parade bands and will receive a special trophy.  Again this year  a special "People's Choice Award" trophy will be given to a band chosen by a group of people who will be on the streets watching the reaction of the fans as the bands pass by. The award will be given to the band that gets the most fan reaction.  The bands will be judged by faculty of the Music Department at SDSU.
• Following the parade will be the performance by the SDSU Pride of the Dakota's Marching Band. They will perform their field show for the parade bands and the public following the parade and before the parade awards are given. This show will be at the Waubay football field about 11:00 AM.
•  This is the eleventh year of the festival in Waubay. The festival was held in Milbank for a number of years. This type of band parade was one of the first of it's kind in South Dakota. The idea has now been copied and there are marching festivals in over a half dozen of other town and cities throughout South Dakota. With well over 600 parade participants and spectators of over 1000 at times, the town of Waubay more than triples in population during this event. The festival has become a premier marching event in this area of the state for the school bands.
•  The public is invited to Waubay to enjoy this parade of marching bands and to join the fun at the football field for the awards and to listen and watch the SDSU Marching Band perform.
