Adventurer completes swim down Missouri River

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- British adventurer Dave Cornthwaite has completed a 1,000-mile swim down the Missouri River.
• Cornthwaite embarked on the 1,004-mile journey on Aug. 10 in Chamberlain, S.D. He reached St. Louis 58 days later. He says he had to avoid obstacles in the water and risk hypothermia along the way.
• Cornthwaite's swim was part of his effort to complete 25 thousand-mile journeys using non-motorized transport, to raise money for charities that raise awareness of breast cancer and support rural schools in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He has now completed seven journeys, including paddleboarding the Mississippi River and skateboarding across Australia.

Deer disease outbreak worsens in South Dakota

• YANKTON, S.D. (AP) -- State wildlife officials are eliminating unsold deer hunting licenses in southeastern South Dakota in response to a disease outbreak.
• The move affects Bon Homme, Hutchinson, Yankton, Clay, Union and Charles Mix counties, as well as southern Perkins County in the northwestern part of the state. Hunters who already have licenses are being given the option of turning them in for a refund.
• South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks earlier reduced the number of deer licenses in some western hunting units because of the disease commonly known by the acronym EHD. It is spread by a biting midge and has killed more than 1,000 deer in South Dakota this year.

Inmate missing from minimum-security prison in SD

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities are searching for an inmate missing from a minimum-security prison in Rapid City.
• State corrections officials say 25-year-old Jeremy Phelps was not at his work release job when authorities checked on Monday.
• Phelps is serving a four-year term for a drug conviction in Brookings County.
