largely participant-driven, with riders ranging in age from 10 to 60, and over. Professional ranks exist for both men and women, where the age ranges from 19 to 40 years old. BMX racing became a medal sport at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
• Severson has been racing for three years and has finished in the top two each year. He began racing after seeing how fun the sport was.
• "I started racing after seeing by brother race," Severson said. "I wanted to do it too! It's a lot of fun."

• Severson does some traveling to race, going as far as Rapid City and Box Elder and in to Minnesota, but most of his racing is done at the Aberdeen Exchange BMX track behind the Boy's and Girl's Club in Aberdeen.
• The Aberdeen Exchange BMX track is currently sanctioned by the American Bicycle Association (ABA) and runs events every Thursday and Sunday night from the beginning a May through the month of September.

• "It's a fun sport for anyone interested in bikes and bike racing," Severson said. "There are people of all ages who come and race."
• According to the website, no special equipment is needed to race.
• "Any bike is considered a BMX bike." The website says. "There are certain modifications that may need to be done to the bike (reflectors need to come off) but there is not a right or wrong when it comes to the type of bike."
• There is a modest fee involved with the racing. A one year membership in the
