Severson Races to a State Championship

• Groton has long been known for its athletes, in all types of sports. So it should come as no surprise that a Groton athlete was recently named a State Champion in one of the fastest growing sports in the area.
• Waylon Severson was named a State Champion in BMX racing in Aberdeen. Not only did Severson win his division, 16 Intermediates; he also finished second in the overall standings.
•  BMX racing is a type of off-road bicycle racing. The format of BMX was derived from motocross racing. BMX bicycle races are sprint races on purpose-built off-road single-lap race tracks. The track usually consists of a starting gate for up to eight racers, a groomed, serpentine, dirt race course made of various jumps and rollers and a finish line. The sport is very family oriented and
