SD school janitor faces child porn charges

• CANTON, S.D. (AP) -- A high school janitor in southeastern South Dakota is accused of possessing child pornography.
• Sixty-two-year-old Neil Chaon, of Canton, faces two felony counts that could send him to prison for up to 20 years if he is convicted. Prosecutor Thomas Wollman says the alleged pornography was on Chaon's home computer and authorities do not believe any local children are involved.
• School district officials aren't commenting on the case. Chaon's attorney said in court Wednesday that his client has been suspended from his job.

Video about diabetes among Lakota people released

• EAGLE BUTTE, S.D. (AP) -- A nonprofit organization on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation has released a documentary in an effort to educate tribal members about diabetes prevention.
• The Cheyenne River Youth Project says the 30-minute video, titled "Diabetes Is Not Our Way," describes what diabetes is and the rise of the disease among the Lakota population. It also features efforts to prevent Type 2 diabetes among Cheyenne River's young people.
• The video is part of a public awareness campaign about diabetes on the reservation.
• The Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation and the Lowenstein Foundation provided funding for the project.

Great Plains Zoo asks for names for baby giraffe

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The baby boy with dark brown eyes has already wooed fans around the world. Now he needs a name.
• The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History is launching a baby-naming contest for their latest reticulated giraffe born early last month. The contest is also a fundraiser for the zoo: People wanting to suggest names for the calf are asked for a $10 donation through Oct. 14.
