Adler dies in vehicle accident east of Groton

• According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol Philip W. Adler, 48, Groton, died in a one-vehicle crash Friday morning, about a mile west of Groton on U.S. Highway 12.
• Adler was driving a 2001 Ford Windstar westbound when the vehicle veered into the right ditch, hit a field approach and came to a stop after about one-eighth of a mile. Adler was wearing a seatbelt but was pronounced dead at the scene.
• "A medical condition might have contributed to the accident," Sargent. Jeff DeVaney, SD Highway Patrol, said "The accident is still being investigated; Alcohol was not a factor."
• The Brown County Sheriff's Department and the Groton Police Department also responded to the accident.
• Adler's funeral is set for Tuesday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Groton, with the Rev. Craig Grams officiating. Burial will follow in the Groton Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
