Dakotas tribe receive DOJ grants for public safety

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Three tribes in the Dakotas have been awarded more than $2 million in grants from the Department of Justice to enhance public safety on reservations.
• The U.S. Attorney's office for the District of North Dakota announced Thursday that the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa and Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate were awarded the grants to help address violence against women and other public safety issues.
• The Department of Justice is awarding more than 200 grants to more than 110 American Indian and Alaska Native nations for public safety.
• Acting Associate Attorney General Tony West says in a news release that the awards show the department's ongoing commitment to help stop crime in Indian Country.

Powerball ticket sold in S. Dakota worth $40,000

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Powerball ticket sold in Sioux Falls is worth $40,000 in Wednesday's drawing.
• South Dakota lottery officials say the ticket matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball to win the game's third prize. Because the purchaser bought the Power Play option, the prize is multiplied to $40,000. The odds of winning it are one in about 649,000.
• Powerball is played in most states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The jackpot sits at $40 million for the next drawing, which is on Saturday.
