Slough Fire

•  Heavy black smoke filled the air east of Groton Thursday evening as Groton Firemen battled a grass fire just outside of town. Roughly 40 acres of slough grass along Mud Creek burned for several hours.
• According to Groton Fire Chief Dion Bahr, the fire call came in at 5:45 and when trucks arrived the fire was starting to creep up on the outbuilding in the area.
• "When we arrived the fire had started to burn the trees surrounding the houses," Bahr said. "That was our first concern. We were able to contain it
