and Redfield-Doland had eight for 78 yards. Several of Groton's penalties came from too many players on the field. "We moved some players around and we need to work on our communication skills," Wanner said. " We're running in freshmen and sophomores and they're not sure where they should go. It could hurt us in close games. We continue to work on that in practice."
• Defensive leaders for Groton were Jackson Doeden with 12 tackles, Kasey Kurtz had 11, Dalton Locke had nine tackles and one sack, Tyler Holm had a fumble recovery, Spencer Knecht an interception and Nick Dalchow had one sack.
• Tyler Masat led Redfield-Doland with 13 tackles and Sully Masat had eight.
• Two players ended up on the sideline during the game. Brook Anderson and Stephen Simon. Wanner said that Anderson had pulled a muscle and Simon had a possible hyperextension leg. Wanner said he did not think it was anything major, but the players did not play for the rest of the game as a precautionary measure.
• Groton, now 1-4 on the season, will travel to Britton on Friday for a 7 p.m. game and Redfield-Doland, now 0-4, will travel to Aberdeen Roncalli.
• Britton-Hecla won its first game with a win over Sisseton. "I figured Britton-Hecla would be one of the better teams in the conference this year," Wanner said. "They've had some bad breaks, but you can't let a 1-4 record fool you. In our conference, you have to show up to play at every game." Wanner said in order for Groton to have a shot at the playoffs, they will probably need to win the rest of the games.
• But for this game, Wanner said, "It's nice to get a win."
