Gridiron scores first win of the season

• Groton Area celebrated homecoming this week and it culminated with a 21-0 win over the Redfield-Doland Pheasants. All three Groton touchdowns were scored in the second half.
• In the first quarter, the Tigers managed to get down to the Pheasant five-yard line, but was unable to convert on the final play of the drive. Later, Groton fumbled the ball, but the Pheasants were no match for the Tiger defense.
• Both teams had the ball three times in the second quarter as the first half ended scoreless. "Redfield is a physical team," said Coach Shaun Wanner. "They play hard and we had to match that. I thought we played pretty physical with them."
• Tyler Holm recovered a fumble on Redfield-Doland's first place of the second

half. "That's called making the big plays," Wanner said. "I told the kids that they have to step up to make some plays." Seven plays, two first downs, 30 yards and 3:05 later, Wyatt Lone would score on a 14-yard pass from Parker Rossow. Nikolai Pyatt would kick the PAT and Groton took a 7-0 lead.
• Pyatt would also do the kick-offs and all three times, his kick ended up in the endzone.
• The Pheasants tried to convert on a fourth down and four yards to go later in
