1970: In the late afternoon golf ball hail fell in and around Redfield with a tornado reported just north of Doland. No damage was reported with the hail or the tornado.

1972: About 430 pm, in Southeast South Dakota a tornado caused an estimated 95,000 damage to property and 50,000 damage to crops in Utica and nearby rural areas. Buildings were damaged, trees and power lines were downed.

1811: The first U.S. tornado to kill more than ten people took eleven lives at Charleston, SC. It was spawned in a landfalling hurricane.

1845: The "Great Adirondack Tornado," really a family of up to 4 tornadoes, traversed an incredible 275 miles, tearing down many thousands of trees across northern New York and northern Vermont.

1987: A vivid rainbow was seen at Fort Simpson, in the Northwest Territories of Canada, during a visit by Pope John Paul II.
