'SNL' player Taran Killam cast as GOP vice presidential hopeful Paul Ryan on season premiere

• NEW YORK (AP) -- The final piece is in place for the presidential race on "Saturday Night Live."
• "SNL" cast member Taran Killam will be playing GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan.
• The question of who had won this key role was answered Saturday when the NBC comedy show returned for its season premiere. Killam appeared in a sketch as Ryan, attempting to clarify his past athletic achievements.
• Killam is beginning his third season.
• Earlier, "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels said Jay Pharoah would take over the role of President Barack Obama from Fred Armisen. Pharoah made several appearances as Obama on Saturday's show.

Alabama, Florida State roll to huge shutouts in conference openers

• FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Without Tyler Wilson, Arkansas never had a chance against Alabama.
• Florida State dispatched Wake Forest just as easily.
• The top-ranked Crimson Tide demolished the beleaguered Razorbacks 52-0 on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark., and the No. 5 Seminoles won by the same lopsided score.
• Arkansas' much-anticipated season has crumbled three weeks into the season. The Razorbacks lost 34-31 in overtime last week to Louisiana-Monroe, and Wilson suffered a head injury in that game.
• Wilson was in uniform, but did not play against the Tide and his backups, Brandon Allen and Brandon Mitchell, were tormented by the Alabama defense.
