First-ever SDSU fall powwow this weekend

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State University is holding its first-ever fall powwow this weekend.
• The powwow will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Swiftel Center in Brookings. Dancers will compete in a variety of categories.
• While the SDSU powwow has been a tradition for more than 20 years, this is the first time it is taking place in the fall.
• Scott Fleming of the American Indian Education and Cultural Center on campus says the event will offer a way to welcome back students and their families to the school.
• He says the powwow is a social gathering for everyone to take part in.
