SD governor asks that flags be flown at half-staff

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard is asking that all flags in the state be flown at half-staff on Tuesday in honor of those who lost their lives in terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
• The flags are to be lowered from 8 a.m. until sunset.
• The White House has issued a proclamation designating Tuesday as Patriot Day and a national day of service and remembrance.
• President Barack Obama will mark the 11th anniversary of the attacks with a series of commemorations in and near Washington.

• Foreign correspondent to share experiences
• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- A foreign news correspondent with more than four decades of experience is giving a speech at South Dakota State University on Tuesday.
• Freelance journalist Reese Erlich is going to talk about his time covering Arab Spring uprising in Syria, Egypt and Gaza.
• The speech is scheduled for 7 p.m. at SDSU's Volstorff Ballroom. It is free and open to the public.
• The event is sponsored by SDSU's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Academic Affairs, the South Dakota World Affairs Council and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting's Campus Consortium.
