Governor Asks For Flags At Half-Staff Today For Patriot Day

• PIERRE, S.D. - The White House has issued a Proclamation designating Tuesday, Sept.11, 2012, as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance.
• President Obama calls for the flag of the United States to be displayed at half-staff on Tuesday, and he has invited Governors of the United States to join in the observance.
• At the President's request, Gov. Dennis Daugaard asks that all flags in the state be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 8 a.m. until sunset in honor of those who lost their lives in terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.

Several Groton runners place at Webster

• Groton took part in the Webster Invitational cross country meet held Monday.
• In the girls varsity division where there were 65 runners, Jasmine Schaller placed sixth with a time of 17:32.76.
• Luke Smith ran a 21:08 to place 39th in a field of 76 runners in the boys division.
• Four girls ran in the junior varsity race in a field of 43 runners. Hannah Lewandowski placed third with a time of 15:31, Ellie Harms was eighth with a time of 16:30, Erin Smith was 10th with a time of 16:37 and Jenifer Fjelstad was 41st with a time of 22:41.

Katelyn Hawkins won $50 during James Valley Telecommunication's "Calling for Cash" contest held recently at a Groton Area football game.  JVT employee Jason Hill is shown presenting the cash. JVT donated $250 to Groton Area HS for hosting the event.
