Appeals judge to speak at USD on Constitution

• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- Judge Roger L. Wollman of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will discuss the Constitution on Monday at an annual event held by the University of South Dakota.
• Constitution Day was established by Congress in 2004 to recognize the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. All colleges and universities that receive federal funding are required to host an educational event about the Constitution.
• Wollman will speak Monday at 4 p.m. at the USD School of Law courtroom.
• Wollman graduated from the USD School of Law in 1962. After practicing law in Aberdeen, he became a member of the South Dakota Supreme Court in 1970 and was chief justice from 1978 to 1982. He was appointed to the federal appeals court in 1985.

S. Dakota man sentenced to prison for assault

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota man has been sentenced to more than a year in prison for assaulting another person with a paring knife.
• U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson announced last week that 41-year-old Loren Dog Eyes, of Rosebud, was sentenced to one year and nine months in custody and one year of supervised release for the March incident.
• Dog Eyes pleaded guilty to the charge in June.
• Dog Eyes was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal's Service.
