Governor's drought task force to meet in Pierre

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The Governor's Drought Taskforce is meeting in Pierre on Tuesday.
• The latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map shows that about 61 percent of South Dakota is in severe or extreme drought. The hardest-hit areas in South Dakota are in the southwest and the southeast.
• Representatives from several government agencies serve on the group, which exchanges and coordinates information about drought conditions. Gov. Dennis Daugaard activated the task force.
• The meeting begins at 2 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center.


Makers of anti-warlord video presenting in SD

• SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) -- A group that created a popular Internet video about the brutal African warlord Joseph Kony is coming to South Dakota.
• The group Invisible Children is scheduled to give a presentation at Black Hills State University next week. The nonprofit organization was founded to try to end the Lord's Resistance Army, which is led by Joseph Kony. Invisible Children created a 30-minute film called Kony2012 that went viral on the Internet.
• The Sept. 10 presentation is free and open to the public. The presentation is sponsored by BHSU's Mass Communications Department and student newspaper, the Jacket Journal.

Firefighters making headway against Neb. Blazes

• OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Some firefighters who have battled the western Nebraska and South Dakota wildfires for nearly a week are being sent home, a fire official said Monday.
• The three fires have burned nearly 260 square miles, but firefighters have made considerable progress on the Douthit and West Ash fires near Chadron, Neb., said information spokesman Neal Kephart.
• "We're getting a good handle on those fires and releasing personnel and equipment," Kephart said. The Douthit fire was 99 percent contained and the West Ash
