Report: Federal cases filed in S. Dakota up

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- An annual report from the U.S. Attorney's Office shows that the number of criminal cases filed in federal court in South Dakota has increased by more than 20 percent from 2010 to 2011.
• The report shows the U.S. Attorney's Office filed 691 criminal cases in 2011. This is up from 555 in 2010. Of the 691 cases, 45 percent were for violent crime. There was also a 13 percent increase in the number of defendants prosecuted from 2010 to 2011.
• The U.S. Attorney's Office handles prosecution of federal cases, including cases in Indian Country.

• Of the nine Indian reservations in South Dakota, the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Indian Reservations accounted for nearly 2/3 of defendants. The Flandreau Indian Reservation saw the fewest number of defendants with three people charged.

Sioux Falls Skyforce announced 2012-13 schedule

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The NBA Development League team in South Dakota's largest city has released its schedule for the upcoming season and begun selling tickets.
• The Sioux Falls Skyforce will have 24 home games, featuring 12 different visiting teams. Eighteen of the home games will be on Fridays or Saturdays.
• One team the Skyforce no longer will play is former rival Dakota Wizards. The team is relocating from the North Dakota capital of Bismarck to Santa Cruz, Calif.
• The Skyforce kick off the season Nov. 24 against the Iowa Energy at the Sioux Falls Arena.

SD man indicted on attempted murder charge

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota man has been indicted for attempted murder.
• Attorney General Marty Jackley says 35-year-old Clinton James Brown of Presho was indicted by a Lyman County grand jury on Friday for 14 felony and three misdemeanor charges. In addition to an attempted murder charge, Brown was indicted on two aggravated kidnapping charges, domestic assault, possessing a firearm and possessing a controlled substance. He faces up to 25 years in prison and a $50,000
