Next presiding judge named in SD's largest circuit

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Former attorney general Larry Long has been named the next presiding judge in South Dakota's largest judicial circuit.
• South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson announced the appointment in the Second Judicial Circuit on Tuesday. Long will move into the position when Presiding Judge Kathleen Caldwell retires in January. A presiding judge is the administrative head of a judicial circuit.
• Long was attorney general from 2003-2009, when he was appointed a circuit court judge in the Second Circuit, which includes Minnehaha and Lincoln counties.

Ellsworth airman killed in 1999 remembered

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Ellsworth Air Force Base has unveiled a memorial to an airman who died in a vehicle accident while deployed to the Middle East 13 years ago.
• Airman 1st Class Leasha Bjork-Hardesty died in Saudi Arabia on Nov. 16, 1999, when she was thrown from an armored vehicle while on patrol.
• The memorial to her is in Memorial Park at Ellsworth, where others killed in the line of duty are honored.

• Sturgis hosts annual Mustang Rally through Sunday
• STURGIS, S.D. (AP) -- Mustangs rather than motorcycles are taking over the streets of Sturgis this week.
• The community known for the annual motorcycle rally that draws hundreds of thousands of people to western South Dakota's Black Hills is hosting the Sturgis Mustang Rally, featuring Mustang cars. It began Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
• It's the sixth year for the event. Robin Shrake tells the Black Hills Pioneer that organizers expect as many as 900 cars.
