SD lab gets grant to help test synthetic drugs

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Attorney General Marty Jackley says the South Dakota Public Health Laboratory is getting a grant of more than $3,500 to improve its ability to test suspected illegal synthetic drugs.
• The lab will buy drug test standards that will help test suspected synthetic drugs against known characteristics of banned drugs.
• Money for the grant comes from the state's drug control fund.
• Jackley says synthetic drugs are increasingly threatening the health and safety of

young people. He says the money will help law enforcement by providing accurate and timely testing of the dangerous chemicals.
• The South Dakota Legislature this year passed a law outlawing a range of synthetic drugs.

State asking for mortgage settlement proposals

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota's attorney general is asking businesses and governmental agencies to submit written proposals on how the remaining portion of mortgage settlement should be spent.
• Attorney General Marty Jackley joined with other state attorneys general in reaching a $25 billion federal-state agreement with the nation's five largest mortgages service providers over nationwide mortgage practices.
• The proposed agreement provided an estimated $7.8 million in direct relief to South Dakota homeowners and addresses future mortgage loan service practices.
• Much of the how the settlement will be distributed is structured, but the Mortgage Settlement Task Force will determine how the state's remaining share will be distributed.
• The application deadline is Sept. 30.

10 to be inducted into SD Hall of Fame next month

• OACOMA, S.D. (AP) -- Ten more people will be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame during an upcoming ceremony.
