But, nowadays, the sun doesn't shine in front of Capricornus at the December solstice. Instead, it shines in front of the constellation Sagittarius on the Northern Hemisphere's winter solstice. The sun last shone in front of the constellation Capricornus on the winter solstice over 2,100 years ago. Hence the name.
• Another thing to note. The term Capricornus generally refers to the constellation while the term Capricorn applies to the astrological sign. Even though the sun passes in front of the constellation Capricornus from about January 20 to February 17, it passes through the sign Capricorn for about one month, starting on the December solstice.
• Bottom line: The moon shines over the constellation Capricornus the Sea-Goat on the night of August 29, 2012.
