• Hoffner is in his fifth year as Minnesota State, Mankato's head football coach. He led the team to the playoffs in 2008 and 2009, and a share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title in 2011.
• He has a 34-13 record at Minnesota State, Mankato, and was named NSIC coach of the year in 2009. He was previously the offensive coordinator at the University of South Dakota.
• He is married and has three children.

2 charged in SD child's death plead not guilty

• WAGNER, S.D. (AP) -- A Wagner couple accused of letting the body of a 2-

year-old girl sit in a closet for nearly two days before reporting the death have pleaded not guilty to several charges.
• Twenty-one-year-old Taylor Cournoyer and 28-year-old Laurie Cournoyer are charged with one count of failure to report a child's death, five counts of child abuse and various drug possession charges. Court documents allege the Cournoyers used sleeping pills, methamphetamine and marijuana during the day and a half the toddler's body was in the closet.
• An 11-year-old boy living in the home also has been charged. Details of the charge have not been released because he is a juvenile.

S. Dakota community could lose fire department

• BATH, S.D. (AP) -- An unincorporated community in northeastern South Dakota may lose its volunteer fire department because it is unable to recruit enough firefighters.
• The Bath Fire Department has petitioned to become a satellite station of the nearby Groton Fire Department. That means the Bath fire hall would remain open and provide fire protection to the community, but it would be under the command of the Groton Fire Department.
• The Groton Daily Independent reports that the petition came after the Bath Fire Department was unable to recruit the 15 volunteers required by law for a fire department.
• The Day and Brown County Commissioners must still approve the petition.
• Bath Township Board Supervisor Jim Whitman says community leaders would like to keep the fire department open, but without volunteers it's not possible.
