Nehls is new head custodian

• From law enforcement to student support Mike Nehls has done it all. Nehls has been working as the head janitor at the Groton High school since the beginning of summer, but before that he was in law enforcement for about thirty years. He was the police chief in Mobridge for eight years after he  held the same title in Groton for ten. He is replacing Merle Harder who retired at the end of the last school year. Mike said he is excited for the school year to finally start.
• He actually graduated from Groton as well as his family. He said his great grandfather worked in the furnace room at the high school a long time ago; he added more coal to the furnace when needed.
• Mike has now retired from the law enforcement. "Working at the school is something different to do," he says. Mike is adjusting very well to the change. "Law enforcement was very stressful and it's good to come here and not deal with all of the stress."
• Mike says that he knows a lot of the staff at

Groton and enjoys working with them. "I have been learning a lot and shadowing the other janitors," says Mike. "It's great being in my hometown again."
