Bath joins Groton Fire District

• Groton Fireboard held a short meeting on Monday evening, which turned out to be a good thing as two fire calls came in just after the meeting was adjourned.
• Bath Fire Chief Mike Gylnn and Bath Fireman Adam Jorgenson were on hand as representatives of the Bath Township Fire Department. They presented the board with a petition to join the Groton Fire District. The petition was approved.
• Bath will become a satellite station of the Groton Fire Department, allowing the department to remain open. The 42 sq. miles, in and around the Bath Township, will become part of the Groton Tax District.
• Now that the petition has been accepted, it moves to the Brown and Day County Commissioners for approval. They will hold a public hearing to decide wither or not the petition will be accepted.
• Meanwhile the two departments will start working together to get an inventory of the Bath's Fire Department's equipment and what their equipment needs are. There was also discussion on having the Bath Fire Department applying for some of the 50/50 grants that are available to start upgrading their equipment, such as bunker gear, radios and SCBAs, while waiting for the approval to go through.
• The board was unable to start working on next year's budget and levy request, as the state did not get the evaluations out in time. The board may have to have a special meeting to work on the request as it needs to be filed by October 1.
• There being no further business, the board adjourned the meeting.
• Shortly after that, a fire call came in from dispatch of a fire on the east side of Aberdeen. That being part of the current Bath Fire Department area, Gylnn and Jorgenson took off to respond to the call. It was then the Groton Fire Department's turn as a second call in in from dispatch of a fire north of Groton on the east side of Highway 37. Groton Firemen responded to the call.
