Missing South Dakota prison inmate apprehended

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota prison inmate who walked away from a minimum-security unit at the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls is back in custody.
• Corrections officials say 38-year-old Shane Archer went missing Saturday night and was apprehended in the city Sunday afternoon.
• Archer is serving a five-year sentence for a grand theft conviction in Lawrence County.

SD plans ad campaign to find more foster parents

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota is planning an advertising campaign to recruit more foster parents to care for children who have been removed from their families' homes.
• The Department of Social Services has issued a request for proposals from com

panies to develop an advertising campaign that would feature first lady Linda Daugaard as its spokesperson. The campaign would spend up to $150,000 to recruit foster parents to care for Native American children, teenagers, siblings, or those with medical problems.
• Virgena Wieseler of the state Division of Child Protection says more foster parents are needed so children who are removed from their families' homes for safety reasons can stay in their home communities.
• Richard Wexler, director of the National Coalition of Child Protection Reform, says South Dakota removes too many children from their homes.
