Groton Teeners advances to fifth place game

•It was an error that put Jackson Doeden on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, and it was an error that allowed Doeden to score to give Groton a 4-3 win. This was the consolation championship semifinal State A Teener game played Saturday in Tabor as Groton defeated Dakota Valley to advance to the 11 a.m. game this morning.
• Dakota Valley scored first when Ryan Lammers was walked on a full count and would score on a stand-up triple by Brady Dam. Dakota Valley left one on base as the side was retired.
• Drew Planteen answered for Groton in the bottom of the first with a triple of his own. Parker Rossow hit a sacrifice to score Planteen and to tie the game at one.  Kasey Kurtz also had a hit, but was unable to score.
• Both teams had one-two-three innings in the second.
• Dakota Valley once again scored in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Isaac Faldmo hit a single and Ryan Lammers was walked as Dakota Valley put two runners on base. Andrew Trochello got on base with an error and that error allowed two runs to score for Dakota Valley.
• Once again, Groton answered in the bottom of the third. Alec Oleson had a lead off single. Drew Planteen added a single. An error overthrowing the base allowed Oleson to score. Rossow hit his second sacrifice fly to score Planteen.  Spencer Knecht also had a single, but was left on base as the game was tied at three after three innings.
• Conner Berger got a single, but was left stranded on base for Dakota Valley.
• Groton had a one-two-three inning in the bottom of the fourth, as did Dakota Valley in the top of the fifth and Groton in the bottom of the fifth.
• Both teams got one runner on base via a hit by pitch and both teams left the runner stranded at first in the sixth inning.
• Dakota Valley had a one-two-three inning in the top of the seventh which led up to the exciting finish with Doeden getting on base and scoring on a pair of errors.
• Drew Planteen was the winning pitcher for Groton, pitching all seven innings.
