Report says SD drought conditions mostly unchanged

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- State Climatologist Dennis Todey (TAH'-dee) says drought conditions in South Dakota are largely unchanged except for a small area in the Black Hills that received some rain.
• Todey says rain and somewhat cooler temperatures reduced the drought impact in part of the Black Hills. He says the central Black Hills have received above-average precipitation in the past 30 days.
• Todey says rains also have helped some pastures in western South Dakota, easing fire danger slightly. Rain and cooler temperatures helped prevent conditions from worsening in parts of the state.
• The climatologist says small areas have received rains that could help soybeans recover some yield.
• The national drought report indicates that about 88 percent of South Dakota was in some level of drought as of Tuesday, with the rest abnormally dry.

Blackboard asks people thought-provoking question

• YANKTON, S.D. (AP) -- What do you want to do before you die?
• That's the question being asked to residents and visitors in and around Yankton.
• A large blackboard was unveiled this week near the Meridian Pedestrian Bridge for people to write down their answer.
• The Yankton Press & Dakotan reports that the 32-foot-long plywood wall and project were spearheaded by the Yankton Area Arts.
