Humboldt/Hartford stops Groton

• To say Groton had a bad day is an understatement as Groton was humbled to Humboldt/Hartford in the State A Teener Tournament, 17-3, in five innings.
• Parker Rossow as the starting batter and he struck out two batters in the first inning as it was a one-two-three inning.
• Drew Planteen got on with an error in the bottom of the first inning and would later score on a Spencer Knecht hit. Groton had one run on one hit with one left on base and there was one error.
• Humboldt scored four runs in the top of the second and all were unearned. The first run hit a single, but would score on a balk with bases loaded. Two batters were walked and both scored on errors. One batter got on base with an error and later scored on a single. Humnboldt scored four runs on three hits, they heave two on base and there were four errors. Humboldt took a 4-1 lead.
• In the bottom second inning, Nick Dalchow got on base via a fielders choice and later scored on a double by Drew Planteen. It was a 4-2 game after two innings. Groton scored one run on two hits, there were no errors and two were left on base.
• Humboldt had a big rally in the top of the third, scoring 11 runs on seven hits, but Groton helped the cause with five errors. Humboldt took a 15-2 lead.
• Groton tried to get a rally going n the bottom of the third inning. Kasey Kurtz had a single and an error allowed Mason Madsen to get on base, but they were stranded on second and third.
• Humboldt had one hit in the top of the fourth and he was left stranded.
• Drew Planteen had his second RBI of the game as his sacrifice allowed  Logan Lane to score, who had a lead off double to start the bottom of the fourth. It was 15-3 after four inning.
• In the top of the fifth, Ryan Johnson was hit by the pitch and would later score on an error. Riley Schraeder got a single and would later beat the throw to home to score. It was 17-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning.
• Jeric Albrecht and Nick Dalchow both had a single in the bottom of the fifth, but the game ended on a double play.
Planteen led the battery with a double, two singles and two RBI. Logan Lane had a double and a single and adding one hit each were Spencer Knecht, Kasey Kurtz, Jackson Doeden, Jeric Albrecht and Chance Strom.
• Rossow pitched for three innings, having 10 hits, 15 runs and five strike-outs. Alec Voss pitched for the last two innings, having three hits, two runs and two strike-outs.
• Groton will play Dakota Valley at 2 p.m. today on the quest for the fifth place trophy. In earlier games, Madison beat Vermillion, 10-2 and Parkston beat Big Stone City in four innings, 15-0.  Tyndall defeated Dakota Valley in the final game.
