SD man arrested for threatening to shoot people

• SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota man is being held without bond on two counts of assault after allegedly threatening to shoot people in the Spearfish Walmart store where he worked.
• KOTA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/Ms50UG ) that 26-year-old Elliot Bintliff of Spearfish was arrested Monday. He made his first court appearance Tuesday, when Circuit Judge Warren Johnson refused to set bail.
• Bintliff works at Walmart as a shelf stocker. According to court papers, he told another employee he wanted to go through the store shooting people. Another employee said Bintliff bought a black mask and combat suit that holds ammo.

Lawrence County State's Attorney John Fitzgerald says several firearms were seized from Bintliff's home.

• Adams Thermal Systems cited for safety violations
• CANTON, S.D. (AP) -- Federal officials have cited a Canton manufacturing plant for 51 alleged safety and health violations.
• The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reports that Adams Thermal Systems Inc. was inspected in February after a complaint alleged problems at the plant that makes coolant systems.
• OSHA reports that it found 44 serious safety violations that include failing to mark emergency exits, provide fall protection on open-sided platforms, ensure that devices prevent unintended startup of equipment and remove defective rigging equipment. The other seven violations were less serious.
• OSHA says Adams Thermal Systems has been inspected five other times since 2004. That includes a death investigation opened in November last year where citations were issued. Adams Thermal has contested that case.
• A spokesman for Adams Thermal declined to comment on the latest citations.

Initiative would make some animal cruelty a felony

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota has one of the nation's weakest laws against animal cruelty, activists said while submitting a citizen initiative Tuesday that would make it a felony to severely mistreat a cat, dog or horse.
