• Killing more females will lead to a population dominated by young male lions, which will likely lead to more conflicts between cougars and people in the Black Hills, Seneczko added. She also opposes allowing hunters to use dogs in Custer State Park.

$18M raised so far for SDSU sport practice center

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State University has secured $18 million in commitments for an indoor multisport practice facility on its Brookings campus.
• The school says Sanford Health has agreed to provide $10 million for the Indoor Practice and Human Performance Athletic Facility, and another $8 million has been committed by anonymous donors.
• The project is estimated to cost between $24 million and $28 million. Construction is to begin next spring, north of Coughlin-Alumni Stadium and next to the Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center.

SD woman faces involuntary manslaughter charge

• FORT THOMPSON, S.D. (AP) -- A 20-year-old South Dakota woman faces an involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of a passenger in a vehicle she allegedly was driving.
• Leigha Koster is accused of drinking and driving and fleeing from a Crow Creek tribal officer on Saturday night. Authorities say the chase ended when Koster's vehicle rolled near Fort Thompson, ejecting 21-year-old Louis Herman, who died. A 15-year-old female passenger survived.
• Koster also is known as Leigha Tapio. She faces up to eight years in prison if convicted. Her public defender did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.
