• And for those future generations who won't ever know about this horrific incident, we only can hope they'll see the sign, slow down and, if only for a moment, wonder who died at that sad place.

USD-SDSU football game tickets a hot item

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- The resumption of the century-old football rivalry involving the University of South Dakota and South Dakota State is drawing a lot of interest.

• Reserved tickets for the Nov. 17 game in Brookings went on sale this week, and SDSU officials say they sold out in a day. Fans who still want to go to the game can buy standing-room-only tickets.
• The game will rekindle the rivalry that began in 1889 and was interrupted in 2003 when SDSU made the jump from NCAA Division II to Division I. USD has since followed suit.

Lightning sparks 4 small wildfires in Black Hills

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Lightning sparked several small wildlfires in the Black Hills as dry weather persists in the region.
• The Great Plains Fire Information office says all four fires on Thursday were contained. The largest was only seven acres, which is less than a square mile.
• South Dakota Public Radio reports that the Turkey Hill Fire to the west of Rapid City burned within a half mile of some homes.

SD US House candidates will debate Aug. 22

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- The two candidates for South Dakota's lone seat in the U.S. House will meet in a debate Aug. 22 to discuss agricultural issues.
• The debate between Republican Rep. Kristi Noem and Democratic challenger Matt Varilek will be held in Mitchell as part of the annual Dakotafest farm show.
• The event is being hosted by South Dakota State University and the South Dakota Corn Growers Association. It is the first confirmed debate between the congressional candidates.
