44,000 tiles replaced between Bristol and Aberdeen

Planned maintenance work has been underway since July 12 on the railroad tracks in the Groton area. According to Amy Mcbeth, public affairs director for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, 44,000 ties will be replaced in a stretch between Bristol and Aberdeen.
• The BNSF network is made up of many different subdivisions, which are specific sections of track. This is part of the Appleton Subdivision which runs from Aberdeen to Benson, Minn. During this time, approximately 110 people in two tie gangs have been working in the area. One of the main gathering areas has been on the south edge of Groton when they report to work between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m.
• Mcbeth said, "Replacing railroad ties is part of our ongoing maintenance and investment in our infrastructure." She said that replacing the ties will allow trains to continue to operate at current maximum speeds and it is not intended to allow trains to operate at increased speeds.
• Work is expected to be completed in this area on Tuesday, July 31.
